Materials Needed 🧶
- Yarn: Approximately 100-120 yards of DK Weight (Light Worsted / #3) or soft Worsted Weight (#4) yarn. A yarn with good elasticity is best.
- Main Color (MC): Soft Pink (Approx. 90 yards)
- Contrast Color 1 (CC1): Snow White (Flower Petals)
- Contrast Color 2 (CC2): Pale Yellow (Flower Center)
- Crochet Hook: 4.0 mm (US G-6), or the size needed to obtain gauge.
- Tapestry Needle: For seaming and weaving in ends.
- Scissors
Skill Level & Notes 💡
- Skill Level: Intermediate. Requires consistent tension when working in the back loop only, and comfort with seaming and working a simple appliqué.
- Sizing: This pattern is written for 3-6 Months (Head Circumference: 14–17 inches / 35.5–43 cm).
- Stretch: The hat stretches significantly due to the ribbing. The Length measurement (Row count) determines the circumference, and the Width (Starting Chain) determines the height.
- Chains: The turning chain (ch 2 or ch 1) at the beginning of rows does not count as a stitch unless specifically stated.
Gauge 📏
In BLO-HDC (Ribbed Fabric) using a 4.0 mm hook: 14 rows of 20 BLO-HDC = 4 inches (10 cm) square. The finished rectangle before assembly should measure approximately 8 inches (20 cm) long by 7.5 inches (19 cm) wide.

Special Technique ✨
Back Loop Only Half Double Crochet (BLO-HDC)
This is the main stitch used for the body of the turban.
- BLO-HDC: Yarn over, insert hook into the back loop only of the specified stitch, yarn over, pull through the loop, yarn over, pull through all 3 loops on the hook.
Part 1: The Turban Rectangle (MC – Soft Pink) 📏
The hat is made by creating a rectangle that will wrap around the head.
Start: Ch 35.
Row 1 (HDC): Hdc in the 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (34 hdc)
Row 2 (BLO-HDC): Ch 2 (does not count as st), turn. Hdc in the BLO of each st across. (34 hdc)
Rows 3-60: Repeat Row 2.
- Stop repeating when your rectangle measures approximately 17-18 inches (43-45 cm) long. This measurement determines the head circumference.
Fasten off, leaving a very long tail (approx. 30 inches / 75 cm) for seaming and cinching.

Part 2: Seaming and Cinching ✂️
- Seam: Fold the rectangle in half lengthwise (so the short edges meet). Using the long tail and tapestry needle, stitch the two short ends together using the mattress stitch or whipstitch. This forms a ribbed tube.
- Gather Top: Thread the long tail up and down through the stitches all around one edge of the tube (this will be the top of the hat). Pull the tail tightly to cinch the opening completely shut. Secure the yarn tightly and weave in the end on the inside.
Part 3: Forming the Turban Knot 🪢
- Turn the tube right side out. The seam from Step 1 should be at the back of the hat.
- Locate the center front of the hat (opposite the seam).
- Pinch the fabric at the center top and bottom of the front (forming a vertical line).
- The Crossover: Gently twist the pinched fabric one half-turn, then fold the top half down and the bottom half up, overlapping them to create the classic turban knot shape.
- Using a new piece of MC yarn and your tapestry needle, tack the crossover layers securely together in the center back of the knot so they don’t shift. Weave in the yarn ends.

Part 4: The Layered Flower Appliqué 🌸
Center (CC2 – Pale Yellow):
- Rnd 1: Start with a MR. Ch 1, 6 sc into the ring. Sl st to the first sc. (6 sc)
- Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each st around. Sl st to join. (12 sc) Fasten off CC2.
Small Petals (CC1 – Snow White):
- Join CC1 into any sc. Ch 1. [Sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc] all into the next st (Small Petal made). Sl st into the next st.
- Repeat the [Small Petal, sl st] sequence 5 more times. Sl st to the beg sl st. (6 petals) Fasten off CC1.

Large Petals (CC1 – Snow White):
- Join CC1 to the back of the flower, into any sc from Rnd 1 of the center.
- Rnd 1 (Setup): Ch 1, sc in the same st. Ch 2. [Sc in the next sc of Rnd 1, ch 2] 5 times. Sl st to the beg sc.
- Rnd 2 (Petals): Sl st into the ch-2 sp. [Ch 3, 2 dc, tr, 2 dc, ch 3, sl st] all into the ch-2 sp (Large Petal made). Sl st into the next sc.
- Repeat the [Large Petal, sl st] sequence 5 more times. Sl st to join. (6 large petals)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Part 5: Assembly 🫧
- Attach Flower: Using the long tail from the Large Petals and the tapestry needle, center the flower over the turban knot. Sew the entire piece securely to the hat, ensuring all layers of the flower are stable and the knot underneath is held in place.
